“World Heritage City Lab: Sustainable Development Practices for Urban Heritage”

Held on Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th September 2022, both online and in-person, in the city of Cordoba, Spain. 

The event is organised by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, World Monuments Fund Spain, and the Municipality of Cordoba, with the collaboration of American Express, the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba and ICOMOS Spain.

The proposed World Heritage City lab in Cordoba, will wrap up the celebrations of the 10th Anniversary of the Historic Urban Landscape Recommendation and address traditional building practices, adaptation and development needs, and the role of local communities in the sustainable management of the historic city. This time, in the knowledge-sharing and co-learning spirit of World Heritage City Labs, experts will exchange with the Private Sector, Academia and Civil Society and explore the replicability of previous experiences and recommendations, discuss their relevance at a global scale and define new ways for collaborative action.

The 3 sessions will be organised in:

  • Master lectures: thematic lectures by international experts during the event and to participate in the different round tables
  • Conversations: flash presentations by the Private Sector, Academia, and Civil Society on their most recent actions and initiatives developed to support sustainability of historic cities followed by a group conversation including Master lecture experts
    • What is the structure of such initiatives? Is there available funding? Who are the main stakeholders involved? What are the most cutting-edge topics and challenges?
  • Round tables: there will be spaces for interaction between the presenters of the day and the audience and for open discussion

Registered city representatives, practitioners, and students working on specific cases are especially encouraged to take the floor and share challenges and experiences to be debated.
