World Heritage UK’s 2024 webinar # 5 – Ironbridge Gorge
May 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm UTC+0
£5.00 – £25.00Number 5 in a series of 7 webinar talks, on the UK’s World Heritage Industrial Heritage Sites – Thursday 2nd May 2024.
World Heritage Site: Ironbridge Gorge
The Ironbridge Gorge has global significance for its contribution to the advancement of the Industrial Revolution which had its roots in Britain during the 18th Century and lead to some of the most far-reaching changes in human history. The landscape contains extensive evidence and remains of that period when the area was the focus of international attention from artists, engineers and writers. Today the narrative is changing to encompass the impact of one of the ‘birthplaces of global warming’ as the Gorge experiences the challenges of climate change.
Speaker: Marion Blockley, WHS Chair
Marion is an archaeologist and heritage consultant, and has lived and worked in the Gorge for 33 years. She was Director of the Ironbridge Institute and Senior Lecturer in Heritage Management, University of Birmingham. She carried out consultancy on World Heritage Sites across the UK as well as in Myanmar and Jordan and taught Heritage Management to young professionals in Cusco and Madrid.
