October 17, 2023 Published by Alex McCoskrie

Friday 01st December 2023, 9am – 5pm, in-person and online, University of Oxford.

SXNCH is an expanding global network committed to understanding the inseparable interplay of natural and cultural heritage within historic environments. Recognising the specific vulnerabilities of these environments, such as climate change impacts, SXNCH promotes a holistic management approach that treats nature and culture as parts of a greater interconnected system rather than isolated entities.

SXNCH unites scholars, communities, authorities, and practitioners for democratic and equitable knowledge exchange to collaboratively understand and address the challenges and sensitivities faced by these unique historic environments. Their shared goal is to foster sustainable growth and synergy between communities and heritage for the collective prosperity of all involved.

SXNCH2, the second symposium on Sites at the Intersection of Natural and Cultural Heritage, will focus on UK sites. It will take place at the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Webber Ndoro, Director General, ICCROM
  • Hannah Fluck, Senior National Archaeologist, National Trust
  • Jill Bullen, Lead Specialist Advisor Landscape, Natural Resources Wales
