Comparing Approaches, Values and Philosophies in Conservation and World Heritage in China and the UK

中英文化遗产交流对话高级论坛世界遗产保护的方法、价值与哲学

Time: 24 March 2021, 09:00-11.00 (GMT), 17:00-19:00 (China)

An international meeting using the Voov platform for 2 hours with simultaneous translation

It is known that Chinese scholars and philosophers have a very different, and potentially more sophisticated, take on the significance of heritage and the different balance which should be applied to tangible factors (buildings and structure for example) and intangible factors (memory and culture). This webinar will consider the philosophy of conservation and heritage in the UK with that in China, with particular reference to World Heritage and intangible assets and the connections with soft power, an issue of real significance for both Britain and China.

The programme includes opening remarks by Matt Burney, Director of the British Council in China, a Ministerial message from Government officials in the UK and China, presentations from four heritage experts, an opportunity to table questions to the speakers in a Q&A session and closing remarks from Rehana Mughal, Director of Arts, British Council China.
