Edinburgh World Heritage talk – 10 Scotland Street

December 11, 2023 Published by Alex McCoskrie

Date: Thursday 18th January 2024, starting at 6pm
Venue: Riddle’s Court, 322 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2PG

Join EWH and film producer Leslie Hills to hear her talk through her first book – a very personal journey to discover the history – and the former occupants – of her house at 10 Scotland Street. The story of an Edinburgh home and its cast of booksellers, silk merchants, sailors, preachers, politicians, cholera and coincidence and its widespread connections over two centuries across the globe to the Caribbean, Irkutsk, Calcutta, Sydney…

Both Sara Sheridan and Val McDermid have showered praise on this book, and Leslie will give some insight into the research highlights – and pitfalls – that she encountered along the way.

An EWH Friend, Leslie Hills is a film producer at Skyline Productions. She has written extensively on education and the arts and has published short stories, but this is her first book. It will be available to buy on the evening, and Leslie will be happy to sign copies.
